Only order the medicines you need

Are your medicines piling up?

Every year, about £18 million of medicines are wasted in West Yorkshire.

This includes inhalers, painkillers, creams, and more.

The NHS needs your help!

What you can do:

  1. Check first – Look at what medicines you already have before ordering more.
  2. Only take what you need – At the pharmacy, return any extra items before you leave. Then they can often be reused.
  3. Order on time – Ask for your medicines when you have about 7–10 days left. Do not order too early.

Why this matters:

  • You get the right medicines and care.
  • Less waste.
  • NHS money and resources are saved.
  • It helps the environment.

It’s safer too:

  • Having too many medicines can be confusing, especially if your prescription changes.
  • Extra medicines can be dangerous if children or pets find them.
